On December 26, 2017, at approximately 1:12 am, Officer Stephens of the Hendersonville Police Flex Team discovered a stolen vehicle on West Main Street. The vehicle was occupied by four people and once Officer Stephen activated his emergency equipment, the vehicle fled and attempted to evade capture. After a pursuit, the vehicle crashed in the area of I-24 and Briley Parkway.
It was determined that the four occupants of the vehicle were juveniles, one seventeen years old and three sixteen years old. One of the teens was treated at the hospital for a minor injury and released. All four juveniles are currently being detained in Sumner County Juvenile Detention, awaiting a detention hearing. The date of the hearing will be determined on December 27, 2017.
It has been determined that this was another attempted gun store burglary. The charges are evading arrest, possession of burglary tools, and possession of stolen property. The driver of the vehicle was 16 years old and he will be charged with these crimes and reckless endangerment.
Mayor Clary will be holding a press conference at City Hall on December 27, 2017, at 2:00 pm to discuss this and the other crimes that have involved juveniles. The address for Hendersonville City Hall is 101 North Maple Drive.
