Attempted Homicide on State Route 386

On Saturday, October 12, 2013 at 11:00 p.m., the Hendersonville Police Department received a report from a witness that a female subject had been ejected from a vehicle while traveling North bound on State Route 386 before Exit twelve. Responding officers located a female lying on the side of SR-386 with injuries. She was transported to Vanderbilt Hospital by Sumner County Emergency Medical Services. Witnesses stated that they observed the victim hanging out of the vehicle and then fall from the vehicle. The vehicle stopped and backed up and the occupants attempted to get the victim back into the vehicle but then fled the scene according to witnesses. The victim was being treated for non-life threatening injuries at the time of this release. Investigation revealed that a domestic disturbance between the victim and a family member resulted in the victim being ejected from the moving vehicle. On Sunday, October 13, 2013 at approximately 4:38 a.m., members of the Hendersonville Police Department, with the assistance of the Sumner County Sheriff’s Department, arrested two subjects at their residence on Clearview Road in Cottontown, Tennessee. Arrested were: Tina M. Shelton, age 53, of Clearview Road in Cottontown, Tn. and William Bryant Groves, age, 69, of Clearview Road in Cottontown, Tn. Tina M. Shelton was charged with one count of attempted first degree murder,  one count of leaving the scene of an accident with injuries, and domestic assault. Her bond was set at 500,000 dollars. William Bryant Groves who was driving the vehicle at the time of the incident was charged with one count of accessory after the fact of attempted first degree murder, leaving the scene of an accident with injuries, and reckless endangerment with a weapon. His bond had not been set at the time of this release. The court date was set for December 11, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. in the General Sessions Court of Sumner County.
