Hendersonville Police Memorial Service

Media Release

The annual Hendersonville Police Memorial Service will be held at the Hendersonville Church of Christ in Hendersonville at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, May 14, 2012.  This service will be honoring all police officers who have been killed in the line of duty, in America, remembering that Hendersonville has lost four (4) of our officers in the line of duty.  Those officers were Reserve Officer James Gammons (while in foot pursuit of a fleeing suspect on July 13, 1974), Sergeant Richard Bandy (killed on January 19, 1980), Sergeant Jody Sadek (killed on September 20, 1988), and Officer Danny MacClary (killed on September 27, 2000).  We will also be remembering those officers of our neighboring agencies, killed in the line of duty.

We must never forget that those who choose law enforcement as a career, are often called upon to sacrifice their lives, while attempting to maintain order and while keeping the citizens of their community secure.  In 2011, 170 officers were killed in America, performing their duties.  So far in 2012, 26 officers have lost their lives performing their duties.  This ceremony is intended to honor all of those officers who have given their lives in the line of duty for the communities for which we so proudly serve.

The public is invited and encouraged to attend this memorial service.
